Last night during an intermission report on NBC Sports, former player Jeremy Roenick made a joke about Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov's mindset being on Pluto, and not focused on the game. I couldn't agree more, especially after the embarrassing goal that he let up against Devils forward David Clarkson. Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen sent a pass back to Bryzgalov (why he did that is beyond me), and Bryzgalov panicked, with Clarkson coming at him. Bryzgalov shot the puck right at Clarkson, and the puck bounced off of him and into the net. It was truly a sight to see. Bryzgalov needs to get his head in the game next season, and not in the bears that he claims to be scared of.
Last summer, the Flyers signed Bryzgalov to a lucrative nine year, $51million dollar contract. This season, Bryzgalov proved to be worth a lot less, as he was inconsistent during the entire season. He was especially off during HBO 24/7, a documentary of the Flyers and New York Rangers on the road to the 2012 Winter Classic. It's too late for him to change this season, because the Flyers are out of the playoffs, but he better get it together for next season if the Flyers want to make it past the second round of the playoffs. It's time to come back to Earth, Bryz.
