What a Stanley Cup in L.A. Would do for Hockey

The matchup is set. The Los Angeles Kings will play against the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals. If the Kings were to win the Cup, the impact on hockey would be tremendous. Hockey in California does not match up well with other sports, like football, baseball, and basketball. A championship in would put hockey on the map in California. With the Kings gaining more and more attention as the playoffs go on, them winning a championship would be the icing on the cake for the Kings, as their fan base would increase enormously. And the fact that L.A. is filled with celebrities help them out as well.
Stars such as Kobe Bryant and Alyssa Milano are often seen at Kings games, as well as Tweeting about them. Recently, Alyssa Milano took over the NHL's Twitter account over the course of a Kings playoff game. Celebrities showing support for the Kings is vital for the growth of hockey popularity in California because fans will be interested in what these celebrities are doing and Tweeting about. Hearing that Kobe Bryant is at a Kings playoff game will make many of his fans want to tune in to the action, and this has been what we have been continuing to see. But the most important piece of the growth of hockey in California is simply that the Kings are making one of the greatest playoff runs and are now in the Stanley Cup Finals.
