Penguins vs. Flyers Game 3: Why it was a Great Game
Today, at 3 p.m., the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers faced off for another epic battle in this violent series. In Game 1, we saw the Flyers come back from losing 3-0, and win 4-3 in overtime. Game 2 between these two was a scoring frenzy, where the Flyers won 8-5. Game 3, where the Flyers won 8-4, had the scoring of Game 2, but the physicality between these two bitter rivals really made this a great game to watch.
This game reminded me of old time hockey; high scoring games, teams that hate each other, and violence galore. Fights broke out after the Flyers second goal. And it wasn't just one fight. It was two; between star players! Sidney Crosby fought Claude Giroux and Kris Letang fought Kimmo Timonen. Both Letang and Timonen, star defensemen for each of their clubs, were ejected from the game. And that didn't stop there, with a number of fights breaking out in third period, as well. The fights added on to the incredible atmosphere provided by the fans.
A sea of orange covered the stands, and they loved every minute of this game. With Scott Hartnell amping up the crowd after a fight, and constant chants of "Crosby sucks," these fans were really into this game. A great crowd always makes a great game even better. The atmosphere is just better, especially with it being the playoffs. Say what you want about Flyers fans, but they created a great playoff atmosphere, making a great game, matchup, and rivalry, that much better.
