Game 7 Predictions: Boston vs. Washington

This afternoon, we saw yet another tight game in the Boston-Washinton saga. The game finished in overtime, as Tyler Seguin scored the overtime winner for the Bruins in a fantastic 4-3 win in Game 6. If this series so far is any indication of how Game 7 is going to be, then we are all in for a treat. In this post, I am going to post what I expect from each team, and then who I think will win.

Boston Bruins

Look for Boston's defensemen to be a major part of Game 7.Milan Lucic will be needed to get under the skin of the Washington Capitals. Defensemen Zdeno Chara, Dennis Seidenberg, and Andrew Ference can all chip in offensively, and they are all leaders in that locker room. If they play well, they can boost everyone else's game. And don't forget about Tim Thomas. This man can steal a hockey game at any given time; and he's especially deadly during the playoffs. Look at last year, when Thomas won three Game 7's (including one in the Stanley Cup Finals) on the way to winning the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy. If I could pick any goaltender to play for me during Game 7, the obvious choice would be Tim Thomas.

Washington Captials

Washington's offensive weapons are going to come out swinging in Game 7, but the question is: will they try too hard to win this game by themselves if things don't go their way? When things don't go Alex Oechkin's way during a hockey game, he usually tries to do everything by himself, which leads to frustration from him, and the entire team. If Ovechkin can keep his composure, the Capitals can win this hockey game. Alexander Semin has been great thus far in the playoffs. He will need to keep up his strong effort, which has been questionable during the regular season. And let's not forget about Braden Holtby. This kid has been excellent for the Capitals, coming into the picture because of injuries, and really proving that he can be their guy in the net moving forward.

My Pick

I'm going to have to go with the Boston Bruins on this one. They have more experience, which is a key factor in winning important games. Having Tim Thomas in net certainly gives Boston the edge as well. Braden Holtby has been remarkable for Washington, but he just doesn't have the experience. Holtby will be successful one day, but I don't feel that this is his time to win. Yet.
